TechG3 Reviews the HONOR 600: The Midrange Phone That Feels Surprisingly Premium

HONOR is taking a massive, unapologetic swing at the premium mid-range market with its new HONOR 600 5G. On paper, it reads like a device trying to break the boundaries of its class, offering flagship-level display brightness and a battery capacity that borders on ridiculous. But how do these technical milestones actually translate to real-world use? Let’s peel back the marketing layers and see what this device is truly like to live with.

Design and Screen: Brighter Than Your Future

Holding the phone, the build quality immediately makes an impression. HONOR utilized a unibody cold-carving process and paired it with a matte metal frame. It gives the chassis a dense, premium rigidity that sits comfortably in the hand without feeling overly sharp. It drops into your pocket with a thickness of 7.8mm and a weight of 190 grams. It is reasonably svelte considering what is packed inside, though you will definitely notice its presence. For peace of mind, the body carries an IP68, IP69, and IP69K rating, meaning it can survive everything from a standard drop in the pool to high-pressure thermal jet washes.

Flip it over, and you are greeted by a 6.57-inch AMOLED straight screen. For anyone tired of accidental edge-touches on curved panels, this flat display is a massive win. It pushes a crisp 2728×1264 resolution at a dense 458 PPI, paired with a fluid 120Hz refresh rate.

However, the real showstopper here is the brightness. HONOR claims an astronomical 8000nits HDR peak brightness. Keep in mind that this peak is strictly contextual and only triggers under intense direct sunlight or when rendering specific high-dynamic-range content. In daily outdoor usage, it simply means you will never have to squint at your screen again, even under direct noon sun. To keep your eyes from frying under all that illumination, HONOR bundled an aggressive 3840Hz risk-free PWM dimming system alongside AI-driven defocus and motion sickness relief features. It is easily one of the most comfortable, vivid displays on the market.

Performance and AI: The MagicOS Ecosystem

Under the hood runs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 Mobile Platform. Built on a multi-tier core architecture—headlined by a prime Cortex-A720 core clocking 2.8GHz and supported by an Adreno 722 GPU—this chipset is a highly capable engine. Combined with configuration tiers of either 8GB or 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of onboard storage, daily operations are completely frictionless. Apps stay retained in the memory efficiently, and gaming is a breeze.

Software-wise, it ships with MagicOS 10 running on top of Android 16. HONOR has heavily leaned into deep platform intelligence for this iteration. Rather than just relying on generic features, they have integrated a dedicated physical or virtual AI Button to quickly summon contextual tools like AI Screen Suggestions or your Booking Agent.

The integration with Google Gemini provides excellent productivity assistance, allowing for system-wide Circle to Search, live translation during calls, and comprehensive writing proofing. Furthermore, in an age dominated by digital manipulation, the built-in AI deepfake and voice cloning detection tools offer a genuinely useful layer of modern security.

Camera System: Pixels and Post-Processing

The rear camera module is physically prominent, dominated by a massive 200MP ultra-clear night camera utilizing a 1/1.4-inch sensor. It features an f/1.9 aperture and is stabilized by high-grade CIPA 6.0 OIS. In practice, this camera relies heavily on pixel-binning to capture incredibly detailed daytime images and remarkably clean low-light shots. The hardware is accompanied by an AI Color Engine and an Enhanced Night algorithm that pulls clean exposures out of near-total darkness.

The secondary sensor is a 12MP ultra-wide lens that doubles as a macro shooter. It handles landscape environments capably, though it lacks the sheer dynamic range of the primary sensor. On the front, the 50MP portrait selfie camera uses a fixed-focus setup with an f/2.0 aperture to deliver crisp, social-media-ready self-portraits.

The editing suite is where the fun happens. HONOR’s software allows for aggressive post-processing tricks, including AI Outpainting to expand the borders of your shots, a highly competent object eraser, and an AI Image to Video 2.0 tool that attempts to animate static photos. While the video generation can sometimes exhibit typical AI warping artifacts, it remains an entertaining creative tool to play with.

Battery Life: The Ultimate Endurance King

If the display brightness is the headline feature, the battery capacity is the actual reason to buy this phone. Packed inside this 7.8mm frame is a staggering 7000mAh long-life battery. This capacity is unprecedented for a phone that isn’t a rugged, bulky brick. For standard users, this is an easy two-day device; even for absolute power users who are constantly streaming, gaming, or hot-spotting, running this battery down to zero in a single day is a difficult challenge.

When you finally manage to deplete it, the phone supports 80W wired SuperCharge technology. It also supports 27W wired reverse charging, turning your phone into a legitimate power bank capable of juicing up your wireless earbuds or a friend’s dying device in a pinch.

The Verdict

The HONOR 600 5G feels less like an iterative update and more like an aggressive display of engineering capability. It effectively solves the two longest-standing pain points of modern smartphones: screen visibility outdoors and battery anxiety. While the Snapdragon 7-series processor reminds us that this is technically a mid-tier device rather than a premium tier flagship, the combination of an elite display, heavy-duty durability, and an endless battery makes it an incredibly compelling package for practical users.“- Rachelle TechG3
