The Redmi Note 10S sits between the Redmi Note 10 and the Redmi Note 10 Pro, being largely identical to the Redmi Note 10 but with a better camera and chipset on paper/ However, The Redmi Note 10S is intended for price-conscious buyers offering two storage options 64GB or 128GB. The Android smartphone comes with the MediaTek Helio G95. The smartphone offers 6 GB of RAM.

Design

The phone has a similar design to its siblings, the Note 10 and Note 10 Pro with all variants featuring a glossy glass-like back, a small Redmi logo on the bottom left side, and a uniquely designed camera module. With the glossy finish, it is worth taking note that the phone is a fingerprint magnet but thankfully Xiaomi includes a transparent jelly case with the phone. The Xiaomi smartphone has an IP53 certification, meaning that it is both water- and dust-proof. The build quality is on a very good level.

At the front, you are greeted by a 6.43-inch AMOLED display protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3 and has slim side bezels and a hole punch notch at the top. While we would’ve preferred it if the front camera notch was placed on the upper left side instead of the center, this is not much of an issue as it is still small enough that we did not find it to be too distracting. You also do get the option to hide the hole punch with the Hide notch option in the phone’s settings.

Aside from the great display, the Redmi Note 10S also has surprisingly good onboard audio for a lower mid-range smartphone. This is because the phone has dual speakers, a feature usually seen on flagship phones.

On the left side, you have the power button with a built-in fingerprint sensor and the volume up and down while on the right you have the sim-tray slot that has individual slots for 2 sim cards and a Micro SD card.

Performance & Battery

AS previously mentioned, the Redmi Note 10S packs in a more powerful MediaTek Helio G95 processor than the Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 in the Redmi Note 10. This processor is paired with 6GB of RAM, and as well as 64GB or 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage. While it’s not exactly designed as a gaming smartphone, the Note 10S proved to be a more than capable mobile gaming device.

Playing games such as League of Legends: Wild Rift and Mobile legends on the highest graphical settings was a piece of cake and we ran a consistent 60FPS on these MOBA games. On-Call of Duty: Mobile we were able to run on high graphs and high framerate with no signs of the phone slowing down or heating up to uncomfortable levels.

Along with great performance, the Note 10S also has excellent battery life. Thanks to the large capacity 5,000mAh battery, the phone was able to last for over a day on a single charge. Given the large battery, it only makes sense to pair it with fast charging capability, in this case, Xiaomi included a 33W fast charger with the 10S.

Camera

Xiaomi has equipped the Redmi Note 10S with a 64MP main + 8MP ultra-wide-angle + 2MP macro camera + 2MP depth sensor quad rear camera setup, as well as a 13MP front camera.  The highlight of the camera is the 64-MP main camera of the Redmi Note 10S can produce very detailed close-up shots and portrait mode gets really good edge detection in good lighting conditions.  In low-light conditions, the ultra-wide-angle shooter has difficulty capturing detail. Images, even when using the night mode, come out very grainy, and also you need a really steady hand to get something usable considering there is no OIS. The front-facing camera is decent for taking selfies.

For video recording, the Note 10S is capable of recording up to 4K video @30 FPS but this isn’t stabilized it is when you drop the resolution down to 1080p then electronic stabilization does kick in and videos become quite usable but should still be used mostly when there is good lighting. Overall camera performance is still good but we highly recommend using the camera in well-lit areas to take advantage of what the 10S can offer in terms of image quality.

“Thanks to good cameras, excellent battery life, quality AMOLED display, and performance the Note 10S may be a good smartphone deal from Xiaomi but it is worth noting if you have the budget to spend we would recommend going with the PRO version as you get a better camera as well as a better screen. But if you are on a fixed budget you can’t really go wrong with the Note 10S given its PHP 11,990 price tag.”
