Lenovo addresses shifting workspace needs

Launches ThinkPads with Intel’s 8th-gen processors added security

PHILIPPINES, MARCH 22, 2018 – Lenovo (HKSE: 992) (ADR: LNVGY), the world’s leading PC manufacturer, launched its 8th-generation Lenovo ThinkPads and ThinkStationsspecifically designed to provide enhanced agility and performance to support the ever-evolving workspace spurred by millennial workers.

In the IDC InfoBrief, Enabling the Future Workspace – Agile, Intelligent, and Engaging, commissioned by Lenovo, it is predicted that the changing workforce demographics and rapid adoption of new technologies will lead to fundamental changes in the workspace and how we work.

The study also finds that Asia’s millennials, who will make up more than 50 percent of the workforce by 2020, will drive transformation in workspaces across the Asia Pacific, excluding Japan (APeJ). With this in mind, Lenovo is launching these new workstations to assist Filipino companies in future-proofing their workplace.

Known for its legendary performance, the ThinkPad and ThinkStation lineup is Lenovo’s brand that embodies the ultimate workstation. Faced with a younger, much more mobile workforce, the company is focused on increasing portability, while at the same time improving power and performance.

“A new, faster style of work by a younger generation of workers has given birth to the hybrid workspaces of today where achieving maximum efficiency and productivity is the goal. Gone are the days of the conventional office setup where employees sit at the same desk on the same floor of the same building,” said Lenovo Philippines Country General Manager Michael Ngan.

Five new ThinkPads were unveiled during the launch. These are the ThinkPad L380, X280, E480, T480, and T480S.

Some of the new features include added security, as the new ThinkPads include match-on-sensor touch fingerprint readers, IR cameras for facial recognition access, and even physical webcam covers for privacy. Even the Intel® Core™ vPro™ feature of the 8th Generation processors acts as another layer of protection as it provides remote encryption management which enables authorized users to unlock encrypted hard drives and reset encryption passwords while on the go.

In addition, all of the new models feature USB-C power adapters for universal charging regardless of what option an office will have. They also have a new docking design with a slide-to-connect mechanism that works with most 12-, 14- and 15-inch ThinkPads, making them backward compatible.

For enhanced portability, Lenovo made the 8th-generation ThinkPads lighter than their predecessors. The 12.5-inch X280, for example, is 15 percent thinner (0.69 inches) and 20 percent lighter (2.6 pounds) than the ThinkPad x270.

The ThinkPad’s legendary durability remains as every device went through rigorous testing for the Mil-SPEC 810G military standard, consisting of 10 durability tests which include humidity, low temperature, high vibration, and high altitude.

40 percent more power

With Intel’s latest power-efficient microarchitecture, advanced process technology, and silicon optimizations, the 8th generation Intel® Core™ processor (U-series) that power up the new ThinkPads is Intel’s fastest 15W processor with up to 40 percent greater productivity than 7th Gen processors and 2X more productivity vs. comparable 5-year-old processors.

The new processors have the Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, which lets users work more productively by dynamically controlling power and speed—across cores and graphics— boosting performance precisely when it is needed while saving energy when it counts. It also features Intel® Hyper-Threading Technology, which enables the ThinkPads to finish multiple tasks sooner, making it the perfect accessory for engineers, architects, 3D animators, and other extremely demanding users.

Together with the five new ThinkPads, Lenovo also launched two additions to the ThinkStation lineup: the ThinkStation P520 and P520C. Both are equipped with the latest Intel® Xeon® processors and NVIDIA Quadro® graphics that make them suitable in computer-aided drafting or 3D animation software environments. These new ThinkStations also have tri-channel Cooling technology, which manages internal air flow and power supply better than most workstations.

“With most of today’s workforce being on-the-go, it is now time for traditional workspaces to evolve in order to achieve maximum efficiency and productivity. Together with Intel, our newest ThinkPads meet mobility demands while at the same time providing enterprise-grade reliability and security, thereby making offices who utilize them more than ready to face any challenges that future business environments hold,” said Ngan.
